Iron is one of the most useful metals on Earth. It is strong, hard, and easy to shape when hot. People have used iron for thousands of years. It is found deep inside our planet and even in space rocks. Iron is also important for living things.
Iron in History
Long ago, people learned to heat iron ore and make tools with it. This time in history is called the Iron Age. Iron helped people build better weapons, plows, and wagons. It changed how people lived and worked. Today we still use iron every day in bridges, cars, and buildings.
Iron in Your Body
Your blood needs iron to carry oxygen to all parts of your body. Iron is inside the red cells that make blood look red. You can get iron by eating foods like beans, meat, and spinach. Without enough iron, people can feel very tired. Doctors may give pills to help.
