Reflection
Reflection
Reflection happens when light bounces off something. Most things reflect some light, which is how we see them. Smooth and shiny things like mirrors reflect light very well. That is why you can see your face in a mirror.
How We See
Light from the sun or a lamp hits everything around us. That light bounces off and goes into our eyes. Our brain turns these light signals into pictures we can understand. Without reflection, we would not be able to see anything. A dark room has no light to bounce around.
Smooth and Rough
A smooth surface like a mirror reflects light in a neat way. You see a clear picture in a mirror. A rough surface, like paper, scatters light in many directions. That is why you do not see your face in a piece of paper. Calm water can reflect trees and mountains like a mirror.
Fun Facts
- The moon does not glow by itself, it just reflects light from the sun.
- A stop sign is bright at night because it reflects car headlights.
- Animals like cats have eyes that reflect light in the dark.
Did You Know?
When light hits a mirror, it bounces off at the same angle it came in, which is called the law of reflection.
