Boccia
Boccia
Boccia is a fun and calm sport that takes aim and concentration. Players throw soft leather balls as close as they can to a small white target ball. It is similar to the game of bocce ball.
How to Play
The game starts when a player throws the small white target ball, called the jack, onto the court. Then each player takes turns throwing their colored balls. The goal is to land your ball as close to the jack as possible.
Players can knock other balls out of the way. The player or team with the ball closest to the jack scores points. Some players use ramps to roll the ball if they cannot throw it with their hands.
Who Plays Boccia
Boccia is designed for athletes with physical disabilities that affect their arms, legs, or whole body. Some players use a ramp and a helper called a sport assistant. The assistant sets up the ramp, but the player decides where to aim.
Boccia has been a Paralympic sport since 1984. It is played in over 75 countries. The sport shows that you do not need to be fast or strong to be a great athlete. You just need good aim and a smart plan.
