Drone Racing
Drone racing is an exciting new sport. Pilots fly small, fast drones through obstacle courses. They wear special goggles that show them what the drone's camera sees, so it feels like they are flying.
How Drone Racing Works
Racing drones are small and very fast. They can fly over 90 miles per hour! Pilots wear goggles called FPV goggles. FPV stands for "first-person view." The goggles show a live video from a tiny camera on the drone.
Races take place on courses with gates, flags, and obstacles. Pilots have to fly through each gate in order. The fastest pilot to finish the course wins. Crashes happen a lot, but the drones are tough and can often keep flying.
A Growing Sport
Drone racing started around 2014 when people began racing their hobby drones. It quickly grew into an organized sport. The Drone Racing League has races shown on TV.
Pilots come from all over the world. Many started flying drones as a hobby when they were kids. Drone racing combines technology and skill in a way that no other sport does.
