Snowboarding

Snowboarding is a fun winter sport. A snowboarder stands sideways on a wide board and slides down snowy hills. Both feet are strapped to the board. Riders can carve turns, jump, and do tricks. Snowboarding started in the United States in the 1960s.

Snowboard Gear

A snowboard is wider than a ski and has two foot bindings. Riders wear warm waterproof clothes and boots. Helmets and wrist guards help keep them safe. Gloves and goggles protect hands and eyes from cold and snow. A good board is picked based on the rider's size and skill.

Tricks and Styles

Snowboarders do many tricks in the air. The halfpipe is a big curved ramp where riders launch high and spin. Slopestyle courses have rails and jumps to ride over. Freestyle snowboarders try flips and grabs. Some riders just enjoy carving down open snowy trails.
