Softball
Softball is a sport that is a lot like baseball. The ball is bigger and softer, and the field is smaller. The pitcher throws the ball underhand instead of overhand. Softball is popular with kids and adults all over the world.
How Softball Is Played
Softball is played by two teams. One team bats while the other plays in the field. The pitcher stands on a flat circle and throws the ball underhand. The batter tries to hit the ball and run the bases.
A softball game usually has seven innings, which is two fewer than baseball. The bases are closer together, and the ball is bigger. These differences make softball a slightly different game, even though many rules are the same.
Fastpitch and Slowpitch
There are two main types of softball. In fastpitch, the pitcher throws the ball very fast using a windmill motion. Fastpitch is the kind played in the Olympics and in school leagues. It is very exciting.
In slowpitch, the pitcher tosses the ball in a high arc. It comes down slowly, making it easier to hit. Slowpitch is popular in community leagues and backyard games. Both types are loads of fun.
