The Olympic Games

The Olympic Games are the biggest sports event in the world. Athletes come from many countries to compete. They try to win gold, silver, and bronze medals. The Games happen every two years. One year is for Summer sports. Another year is for Winter sports. People all over the world watch and cheer.

A Long History

The Olympics started a very long time ago in Greece. That was almost 3,000 years ago. Back then, only men could take part. The Games were held in a place called Olympia. The modern Olympics began again in 1896 in Athens, Greece. Now, men and women from all over the world join in. The Games bring people together in peace and fun.

Summer and Winter Sports

There are two kinds of Olympic Games. The Summer Games have sports like swimming, running, and gymnastics. The Winter Games have sports like skiing, ice skating, and bobsled. Each Game is held in a different city. The host city builds big stadiums for the events. The Olympic flag has five rings. The rings stand for the five parts of the world that take part.
