Warming up and cooling down are important parts of every sport. Warming up gets your body ready to move. Cooling down helps your body relax after exercise. Both help prevent injuries.
Why We Warm Up
A warm-up gets your heart pumping and your muscles loose. You might jog slowly, do jumping jacks, or stretch. This sends more blood to your muscles and gets them ready to work hard.
If you skip the warm-up, your muscles are cold and tight. This makes it easier to get hurt. A good warm-up takes about 5 to 10 minutes. After warming up, your body is ready to play.
Why We Cool Down
After playing hard, your body needs to slow down gently. A cool-down might include walking slowly and stretching your muscles. This helps your heart rate go back to normal.
Stretching after exercise helps keep your muscles flexible. It can also help you feel less sore the next day. A cool-down takes about 5 to 10 minutes. It is just as important as the warm-up.
