Women in Sports

Women have always loved playing sports. But for a long time, they were not allowed to compete in many events. Brave women fought for the right to play, and today female athletes are some of the biggest stars in sports.

Breaking Barriers

In the early 1900s, women were not allowed in most sports. They could not run in the Olympics until 1928. A law called Title IX was passed in 1972. It said that girls must get the same chances to play sports as boys in American schools.

After Title IX, the number of girls playing sports went way up. Today, millions of girls play sports in school and in clubs. Women compete in almost every sport, from soccer to weightlifting.

Amazing Female Athletes

Many female athletes have made history. Simone Biles is one of the greatest gymnasts ever. Mia Hamm helped make women's soccer famous. Serena Williams won 23 Grand Slam tennis titles.

These athletes and many others inspire girls all over the world to play sports. Women's sports keep growing in popularity. More people watch women's games than ever before.
