Web Browsers

A web browser is a program that lets you look at websites. You probably use one every day. Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge are all web browsers. They turn computer code into the colorful pages you see on screen.

How Browsers Work

When you type a web address, the browser sends a request to a server. The server sends back the website's code. The browser reads the code and shows you the page. It all happens so fast it seems instant. Browsers can also remember your favorite websites as bookmarks.

Browser Features

Browsers have many helpful features. Tabs let you open many websites at once. The back button takes you to the page you were on before. You can search for anything using the address bar. Some browsers block annoying pop-up ads for you.
