Doraemon

Doraemon is a Japanese manga and anime series created by Fujiko F. Fujio. It first appeared in 1969 and the anime has aired in various forms since 1973. Doraemon is a blue robotic cat from the 22nd century who travels back in time to help a boy named Nobita Nobi. Doraemon pulls futuristic gadgets from his four-dimensional pocket to help Nobita with his problems.

Nobita is a lazy and clumsy boy who struggles with school and bullies. Doraemon was sent back in time by Nobita's future grandson to change his fate. Doraemon's gadgets include the Anywhere Door that teleports you, the Take-copter that lets you fly, and the Time Machine. But Nobita often misuses the gadgets causing funny trouble.

A Cultural Icon

Doraemon is one of the most beloved characters in Asia and is recognized worldwide. The character has been named a cultural ambassador of Japan. There are over 40 Doraemon movies. The series teaches lessons about friendship, perseverance, and being kind even when things are hard.

Doraemon is blue because in the original story he was yellow, but a robot mouse nibbled off his ears. He cried so much that his tears washed away his yellow paint, leaving him blue. That is also why Doraemon is terrified of mice even though he is a robot cat!
